Course outline

This course is suitable for beginner wood workers.  The use of basic woodwork tools will be taught over the course of 8 weeks.  A solid foundation in acquiring the fundamental essential and basics in the handling and processing of wood are acquired, with the student building a portfolio of necessary skill in the woodwork shop.  Skills in woodwork, shaping, design features and finishing are all well practiced allowing the student to gain confidence in the use of a wide range of basic woodwork machinery and tools.  Students will be exposed to a multifaceted range of handheld and some power handheld machinery with an introduction to new and exciting modern tools such as the Biscuit Jointer, Domino Cutter, Kreg Pocket Hole Jig and a Mortising Machine. Traditional and modern methods are taught in a relaxed but professional environment.  The learner will leave the course with a confident skill set to utilise as a steppingstone to further woodwork projects or home DIY.  A variety of projects are produced over the 8 weeks each one utilising the new skills that have been learned with each piece becoming an important learning tool in the journey of woodwork.  Each student will finish 3 projects in total to a high standard and sense of achievement.
